Mechanical Technology Education Students Academic Satisfaction and Performance Relationship: The Mediating Role of Engagement and Organizational Commitment
This study examines the effect of academic satisfaction, student engagement and organizational commitment on academic performance and investigates the mediating role of student engagement and organizational commitment. This study used a correlational design. The research population was metalwork technology students in South-East Nigeria. The research participants were 181 mechanical technology education students and 74 mechanical technology education lecturers from universities in South-East Nigeria. Data were collected by applying a questionnaire. The hypothesis were answered with regression and path analysis. The findings showed that, academic satisfaction, student engagement and organizational commitment are significant predictors of academic performance. The results show that student engagement and organizational commitment had a serial mediating effect on the relationship between academic satisfaction and academic performance. Student engagement has a mediating effect on the relationship between academic satisfaction and organizational commitment and organizational commitment has a mediating effect on the relationship between student engagement and academic performance.
